    Cap flexibility is the absolute credo. 2025 is the waypoint. I’d love to get two more years out of low mileage Trent Williams. You can’t afford to free agent fish for both Trent and Banks at the same time. Puni can learn the system at RT2 but may be the eventual starter at C. Pearsall might be the inexpensive solution to the WR logjam next year. We’re going to lose JJ and I’d choose to surrender Deebo. Gerendo isn’t needed as RB1, but he could make a helluva FB2, which would also lighten the load at TE2. Going to have to find dough for Brock somewhere.

    I really wish people would stop making the "they were good enough to get us to the Super Bowl" argument to justify not upgrading a particular position. You can literally say that about every single player or position group on the team, because *we made it to the friggin Super Bowl.* It says *nothing* about whether that player or position was actually a positive contributor in getting us to the Super Bowl, or whether they need to be upgraded. I mean, here you were arguing that the O-line was good enough to get us the Super Bowl, and for Purdy to set the franchise passing yards record. Ok, true. But I'm fairly sure our *receivers* had something to do with that too, and that didn't stop us from splurging a 1st and a 4th-round pick to add to that group. I get adding different skill sets in the receiving corps, but we know from the Super Bowl that the receivers can't help much if the line can't block. If the defense knows that the pass protection can't hold up for more than 2 seconds, then deep routes from guys like Cowing really don't matter, and they're free to crash down on anything short.

    Interestingly enough, Kurt Warner said the same thing late last season but about qbs. Those who played tons of snaps in college have seen a lot of sh*t already so are more familiar with defenses and what not to do in certain situations. Appreciate the analysis as always! Thanks for making me feel better about the Pearsall pick. Really hope we don't regret not getting Dejean or some other player few years from now🤞 Could you also make a video about the UDFAs? I've seen fans hyping up Tanner Mordecai to beat Dobbs (or at least Allen) for a backup position with some even going so far as to say Purdy will be traded in 2025 and Mordecai will be the new starter (hello qb controversy🤦‍♀️)

  • @Wolfeson28
    @Wolfeson28 Месяц назад

    I guess I'm in kind of a state of "like the players we got, not so sure about where we picked them". I'm excited for what Pearsall could bring (plus, go Sun Devils! 🔱), but "rotational guy who can prevent our offense from taking a big step back if a star gets hurt" isn't exactly what you hope to get out of a 1st-rounder. I just can't help thinking that trading back from #31 for somebody's mid-2nd and mid-3rd could have still gotten us all the same guys we got in those rounds, plus Rosengarten if we moved up a couple spots to ensure the Ravens didn't screw us again (I'm convinced we were going to take Nate Wiggins at 31 until the Ravens grabbed him). But, leaving all that behind, I still like the players we got. I see the potential and the fit for Pearsall, I think Green could legitimately be CB3 right off the bat, Puni is at least some decent help at O-line, Mustapha looks good, I'm *really* excited about Guerendo as a potential "CMC-lite", Cowey might finally give us that speed guy, and we'll just have to see about the late round/UDFA guys. I can't help still being concerned about the state of the O-line with no clear upgrades for 2024 (I think Puni is more of a 6th man as a rookie). Sooner or later, we're going to have to bite the bullet and make the investment for a blue-chip tackle, and there were chances this year. Fautanu fell to #20, Guyton made it all the way to #29, Barton (who probably isn't an NFL tackle but is basically a way better Puni) was there at #26. There were chances to trade up without giving up too much, and even ensuring we got Rosengarten in the 2nd would probably have upgraded RT this year. I hope Puni can help somewhat, but you can't bargain-bin this stuff forever.

    • @dattind2173
      @dattind2173 Месяц назад

      I think the only gettable tackle was Rosengarten if they traded up a few spots. But honestly I'm happier with Puni than Rosengarten. I LIKED Rosengarten but he likely wasn't strong enough to contribute in a quality way this season. Puni definitely has a real shot at starting quality, he just needs some technique work. The other guys....Pitt wasn't going to let Fautanu fall, no way. Teams in the top 20 were where the real elite talent was in this draft, you'd need a ton to move up there. No one even wanted to give us their spot for Aiyuk. Barton like you said wasn't even a Tackle. Guyton is a raw project who I didn't feel was really worth trading up for. It's really hard to find good tackles outside of the 2nd round. I think they wanted Caedan Wallace but he was picked early 4th after they picked Puni. Christian Jones is a backup OT, picked in the 5th, very unathletic. The good ones were gone quick, it's a premium position.

  • @richardgiles5608

    • @Wolfeson28
      @Wolfeson28 Месяц назад

      I was thinking that might be a way to get the best 5 linemen on the field. Hopefully Puni is that good immediately, though I'm a little skeptical of him getting to a starting level before 2025.

      Rams LT Whitworth played at a high level until he was 44 YEARS OLD. If that guy can do it, Trent sure as hell can play at least a pro bowl level until he's 40. As long as he stays relatively healthy and 49ers are competing for Superbowls, I can totally see him playing 4 more seasons

That video also had Isaac Guerendo, a running back who looks like about a 5th-rounder who might be an ideal fit for the Niners.

    Greenlaw was/is a Seahawks killer. Not only did he have that goal-line stop, but also in that same 2019 rookie season, he picked off Russell Wilson in overtime in the red zone, took it back into Seahawk territory to set up what would have been the winning field goal, except that Chase McLoughlin (remember when he was on the 49ers?) completely botched it, for the 49ers first loss that year.

    Cle Ferrell was never the athlete to fulfill that Omenihu role. Decent, steady player, not a great athlete. If they believed he was that athlete then it was a simple misevaluation. I don’t think they actually thought that way. I think Cle was always gonna be a base down guy because it played into his strengths as a player in good motor, stout at the point of attack, good edge setting. What they didn’t expect was Drake Jackson being as useless as tits on a bull.

    Chiefs got lucky and they had help from Goodell and the refs, Shanahan and Forester's incompetence for not teaching/ preparing the O-line for all the blitzes Spagnola had. If its not Foresters fault for being a shitty teacher, then its Shanahan's fault for neglecting to draft better and smarter players to fill the O-line depth chart, especially the way he ignores the importance of pass blocking when acquiring O-lineman. I swear if Shanahan doesn't imvest in some players who can actually pass block in this draft I will have lost am incredible amount of respect I had for him. You can't continue to let the same problem kill your Superbowl run each year without doing something significant to fix it.
